Ballet Class 45-minute class including barre and centre work, port de bras, pirouettes and allegro. There will be no pointe-work in the audition. Dress - Plain style leotard in any colour, ballet tights, unitard, ballet shorts, fitted vest. Shoes - Canvas flats. Modern/Jazz Class Focusing strongly on performance skills, the modern/jazz class combines technical corner work and a short, choreographed routine which will include co-ordination, isolated movement, kicks, turns and strong dynamics. Dress - Plain style leotard, footless tights or shorts, jazz or turning shoes. Solo Dance Applicants are asked to also prepare a solo dance in any chosen style that demonstrates their technical strengths, musicality, and performance. The solo should be no more than one minute in length. Dress - According to dance style. Post-audition Interview Following the audition, you will have an interview with the panel, which will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Applicants for the Acting and Musical Theatre course will participate in a short acting and improvisation workshop and a musical theatre performance workshop. Additionally, they will need to prepare a monologue, song and will have the opportunity to give an instrumental performance (optional). All applicants will also provide a recent school report (before the audition) and academic and vocational references upon an offer of a place. We appreciate some individuals may be electively home-educated, please let us know if this is the case.
Monologue
Applicants should prepare and perform one memorised monologue of the candidate’s choice, lasting no longer than 3 minutes.
Song/Musical Performance
Applicants should also prepare and perform one song of their own choosing. You should bring your own sheet music; an accompanist will be provided on the day. All songs should be in the original key for female identifying applicants, but male identifying applicants may change the key to accommodate changing voices if necessary. If applicants play a musical instrument, the panel will also welcome a performance that demonstrates this musical skill. However, this is not compulsory.
Post-audition Interview
Following the audition, you will have an interview with the panel, which will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

Applicants to the Professional Diploma: Dance course will take part in a ballet and jazz class. All applicants will also have to perform a solo dance, take part in an interview with the panel. All applicants will also take part in an interview with the panel and provide a recent school report (before the audition) and academic and vocational references upon an offer of a place. We appreciate some individuals may be electively home-educated, please let us know if this is the case.
Applicants should ensure they wear appropriate dance clothing for the dance classes - changing facilities will be available.
For all parts of the dance audition, hair must be tied back and styled appropriately. Short hair must be off the face.
There will be no solo song for applicants auditioning for the Diploma Dance course.
Ballet Class
Barre
Centre work including: port de bras and pirouettes.
Petit and grande allegro.
There will be no pointe-work in the audition.
Dress - Plain style leotard in any colour, ballet tights, unitard, ballet shorts, fitted vest. Shoes - Canvas flats or soft block ballet shoes.
Jazz
A session combining technical corner work and a short routine with a strong focus on co-ordination, isolated movement,
kicks, turns and a strong dynamic, performance skill.
Dress - Plain style leotard, footless tights or shorts, jazz or turning shoes.
Solo Dance
Applicants are asked to prepare a solo dance in any chosen style that demonstrates their technical strengths and artistic skill set. Solo dances are not to exceed 1-minute in length. Please bring your music downloaded to your phone ready to connect to the studio PA system. Please bring your own phone adapter to connect via aux to the PA system.

Dress – Warm layer over dancewear which doesn’t take long to get on and doesn’t restrict movement. Trainers or other comfortable shoes which don’t restrict movement.
Song

BA Auditions for 2026 Entry
As part of your application to the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Performance course, you will be required to audition.
First Round – Self-Tape Audition
For the first round, you will submit a self-tape which will require:-
One song – a 2-3 minute cut of a musical theatre song.
Your chosen song should show off your voice and your ability to act through song.
Second round - In-Person Audition
If successful, you will then be asked to attend an in-person audition at The Hammond where you will be required to demonstrate your abilities in dance, acting and singing.
Dance
The dance round will focus strongly on performance skills. This will consist of a jazz class which will include:-
A warm-up.
Technical corner work including kicks and turns.
A short musical theatre choreographed routine.
Applicants should ensure they wear appropriate dance clothing and footwear for the dance class - changing facilities will be available.
Vocal
The vocal round will focus strongly on performance skills, considering technical ability and acting through song.
Please prepare:-
o Two contrasting songs (1-2 minutes) of your own choice.
o Songs should be from a musical and demonstrate a good acting journey.
o When cutting each song, pick a section which shows off your voice.
o An accompanist will be available on the audition day – backing tracks are not permitted. You may not be required to perform both songs.
Acting
The acting round will focus on your realisation of character and interpretation of the text.
Please prepare:-
A one to two minute memorised Contemporary monologue.
Choose a piece which interests and challenges you and is age appropriate.
Ensure you have researched the piece and can explore the character and context in the room.
Re-direction may be given by the panel.
